The medallion is comprised of a swirl of floral motifs with a small rosette in the center. Peonies, chrysanthemums and butterflies gracefully surround the medallion on either end. Peonies are one of the most treasured symbols throughout Chinese art and design; the flower is seen to represent unparalleled beauty and honor, while chrysanthemums represent long life.
