Description
30289 Transitional Indian Area Rug, 05'09 X 09'03.
This hand-knotted wool contemporary Indian area rug features a dynamic large-scale all-over Chintamani pattern in sumptuous warm colors. The classic Chintamani motif, which consists of three disks above cloud bands or wavy lines, was widely used in Ottoman weavings from the fifteenth to the seventeenth century and is sometimes also referred to as the badge of Tamerlane. In this contemporary Indian rug, the ancient design is refashioned in an unexpected manner with alternating horizontal rows of discs above rows of wavy lines with small palmettes that resemble crowns. The unique composition feels both refined and relaxed, while gentle waves of abrash enhance the piece’s timeless color palette of wine, cerulean and golden hues. With its bold, lively take on an age-old design, this contemporary Indian rug would be a fantastic addition to any interior, whether traditional, modern, or in-between.
