Description
20886 Vintage Zemmour Moroccan Kilim Rug, 06'10 x 09'04.
This hand-woven wool vintage Zemmour Moroccan kilim rug features three diamonds with open-ends along the center surrounded by additional bands with symbolic motifs creating an expansion effect for the three main lozenge motifs. The expanding bands are composed of squares, chevrons, diagonal rectangles, lozenges, and male symbols known as a comb or ladder.
Though deceptively simple, this Classic design is steeped in Moroccan tradition. The tribal symbols of diamonds, chevrons, and X-shapes are usually thought to symbolize womanhood, conception, fertility, and pregnancy. In Moroccan rugs, male motifs often appear on the outer portions of the composition, framing and enclosing the female motifs. This presentation can be seen as symbolizing fertility, as well as protection and the sanctuary of the family. Blending primitive charm, ancient symbolism and Folk-Art warmth, this vintage Moroccan kilim rug reflects generations of cultural beliefs and serves many design purposes.
Well-suited for a wide range of interior styles: Tribal, Nomadic, Ethnic, Traditional, Eclectic, Modern, Mid-Century Modern, Contemporary, Industrial, Bungalow, Bohemian, Boho Chic, Primitive, Rustic, Lodge, Cabin, and Lake Tahoe. Perfect for a dining room, bedroom, living room, home office, study, studio, front room, or casual sitting area.
