Description
20871 Vintage Moroccan Azilal Rug, 03'00 x 06'07.
This hand knotted wool vintage Moroccan Azilal rug features two large-scale diamonds surrounded by a diamond trellis spread across the field. Zigzag lines come together to form the irregular lozenges while a small portion features pentagon shapes known as Hamsa motifs. Though deceptively simple, this classic design is steeped in Moroccan tradition. The tribal symbols of diamonds, lozenges, X-shapes and Hamsa motifs, all of which typically symbolize womanhood, fertility, and protection, come together into a network that is both meaningful and culturally significant.
