Description

77030 Antique Persian Heriz Rug,10’00 x 13’02.

Born from the ancient looms of northwest Persia, this hand-knotted wool antique Persian Heriz rug unfurls like a folio from a lost epic—its threads imbued with the voice of generations past. At its heart lies a striking multi-layered octofoil medallion, its architectural geometry radiating from a dark floral rosette center. Anchored with navy blue flaming palmette pendants and flanked by angular botanical forms, the medallion sets the stage for the entire composition, like a compass guiding the gaze outward to a world of ornamental storytelling.

The richly hued madder red field surrounding the medallion is alive with visual poetry: rectilinear vines intertwine with serrated leaves and stylized palmettes, each motif a whisper of nature's enduring presence. Ivory floral rosettes, scattered like celestial constellations, offer contrast and rhythm, while smaller esoteric motifs—hooked diamonds, blossoms, and ambiguous tribal symbols—gently allude to protection, renewal, and peace. The botanical language here is both precise and expressive, honoring the pastoral spirit of the Heriz weaving tradition.

In each corner spandrel, ivory grounds give breath and brilliance to the design. Upon them, angular arabesques bloom with stylized florals, serrated leaves, and rectilinear vines. These corner spaces mirror and embrace the central medallion, bringing equilibrium and harmony to the visual symphony. As if drawn from the gardens of paradise, these motifs echo Persian themes of fertility, spiritual ascent, and the eternal cycle of life.

The entire composition is encased in a masterfully rendered Herati border—an endless chain of rosettes and serrated leaves—framed by mesmerizing meander guard bands. This classic structure acts as both ornament and safeguard, reinforcing the integrity of the inner field while offering a final flourish of design sophistication. With its poetic palette of earthy reds, indigo blues, ivory, and earthy hues, this antique Persian Heriz rug is not just a floor covering—it is a woven manuscript of memory, resilience, and enduring beauty.
