This hand knotted wool distressed antique Farahan area rug features an all-over geometric floral pattern known as the Herati design on an abrashed ink blue and navy blue field. The all-over Herati pattern is among the most widespread and well known of all Persian designs, consisting of a flower centered in a diamond accompanied by curving lanceolate leaves that resemble fish. It is enclosed with a turtle vine scroll border flanked with triple inner and outer meander guard bands.
