Description
75284 Vintage Caucasian Azerbaijan Double Saddle Bag, 02'00 x 08'06.
Small double bags, or Caucasian Miniature Saddlebags such as this are used to transport textiles and other goods by horse, donkey, or camel but may also be thrown over the shoulder of a person. Imbued with ancient symbolism, this Nomadic Saddle bag features a lozenge filled with miniature cruciforms with extended poles anchored with lozenge tips creating a larger cruciform/cross motif. Each cruciform is dotted with birds with a long beak and short body. Human figures, birds, animals, boteh, and trees also appear in this rug on the saddle sides. As well as Fertility (bereket) symbols and latch-hook spandrels that further ornament the weaving. A rosette-like border surrounds, adding interest and depth. This delightful piece of art could be used as a Tribal wall hanging, Nomadic wall art, Boho Chic textile, Bohemian Tapestry-- even used as a floor cushion or a long bench cushion.
