Description
76805 Antique Persian Malayer Rug Runner, 03'07 x 17'01.
This hand-knotted wool antique Persian Malayer runner features an all-over Herati pattern on an abrashed ink blue field. The classic Herati motif consists of a flower centered in a diamond accompanied by curving lanceolate leaves that resemble fish. The Herati motif is widely used in Iran and believed to represent the small fishes come up just beneath the surface of the water to swim in the full moon's reflection. With a striking poly-chromatic color palette and timeless style, the classic Herati pattern densely spreads across the field. A series of borders frame the composition, repeating the color schemes of the central design. The main border features a classic carnation meander border, while secondary borders include simple floral meander bands, a floral vine motif and a saw-tooth design. Nice details such as checkerboard motifs, along with the geometric saw-tooth border, add the right amount of graphic appeal to make the floral designs really come to life. A classic design in vibrant and ebullient colors makes this antique Malayer both charismatic and stylish.
