Description

75070 Vintage Persian Shiraz Tribal Rug, 04’04 x 07’00.

This hand-knotted wool vintage Persian Shiraz tribal rug is a lyrical expression of nomadic artistry, where each thread sings a ballad of earth, fire, and tradition. Like desert winds shaping mountain passes, the composition is bold yet harmonious—a study in symmetry and spirit. Three majestic lozenges command the field, each one filled with radiant chevrons that ripple outward like echoes in still air, rendered in shades of terra cotta, ochre, indigo, and charcoal. Their stepped edges mark the rhythm of tribal heartbeat, creating a dance of lines that pulse with vitality.

Set against a luminous sandy-beige field, the medallions become celestial bodies—sunbursts of woven light that seem to float in quiet balance. Small tribal emblems resembling scorpions or protective beetles are scattered in the open space, acting as silent guardians, woven talismans warding off harm and honoring ancestral spirits. The clarity of the field gives space for these motifs to breathe, a pause in the poetry where silence speaks as loudly as song.

Surrounding this central verse is a procession of borders, each one a stanza in its own right. The innermost is a rhythmic diamond lattice, like footsteps across a desert trail. It is followed by a warm orange ribbon border, offering a flicker of flame before the eye meets the main border—a gallery of symbolic rosettes and angular blossoms, each framed in a grid of earthy reds, saffron golds, and midnight blues. Together, they hum the refrain of nature and kinship, of survival and celebration.

This Persian Shiraz rug is more than a textile—it is an ode to the enduring legacy of tribal craftsmanship. Woven by hands that knew the language of earth and sky, it tells a story not just of design, but of devotion. It invites the viewer into a space where memory lives in wool, where color and line become song, and where the soul of a people dances eternally across the loom.
