Description
76495 Vintage Persian Baluch Rug, 03'10 x 08'09.
This hand knotted wool vintage Persian Baluch hallway runner features a large-scale pattern of four inconspicuous octofoil amulets filled with and surrounded by geometric shapes and angular lines. It is enclosed with a tribal border composed of Burdock, Bereket, Ram's Horn, and Elibelinde. The symbols represent fertility (Bereket), and abundance (Burdock). The Classic Elibelinde motif, also known as the “hands on hips” or goddess motif, is thought to represent motherhood and fertility while ram’s horns represent masculinity and power. The fertility bereket motifs that appear combine the symbols of both man and woman, often referred to as ram’s Horn and hands-on-hips motifs, into one design with a diamond in the centre. It is framed by an outer running dog border which is a repeating, stylized Vitruvian scroll resembling a wave.
