52403 Vintage Turkish Oushak Hallway Runner 03'09 x 11'01.
This hand-knotted wool vintage Turkish Oushak runner features three stepped lozenge medallions floating on an abrashed field. Each medallion is dotted with a variety of multicolored rosettes. Irregular checkerboard gridded spandrels and pyramids reach towards the center between the medallions. The attractive main border displays the classic hands-on-hips motif, known as Elibelinde in Turkish, which symbolizes fertility and motherhood. Along with small diamonds, which are seen to ward off evil, the motif is arranged into hexagonal shapes along the sides and appears doubled in a reciprocating pattern along the ends. A simple saw-tooth outer guard border echoes the angular designs of the rest of the composition. With its rich symbolism, classic design, and a rustic time-softened color palette, this vintage Oushak runner would be a warm and inviting presence in any interior.
