The central medallion and spandrels are filled with an elegant floral pattern composed of palmettes, stylized flowers, Harshang motifs, rosettes, leaves, and rectilinear vines. The spandrels and center medallion are enclosed with a thin band with spiked edges and interrupted with a square Doric abacus in each corner. The rectangular bands contain roses alternating with a calligraphic script and meandering stylized leaves. A saw-tooth border frames the medallion, spandrels, and rectangular bands. This vintage Oushak rug is completed with a series of borders, from the Shah Abbas palmette border flanked with an inner running water guard band and outer floral meander guard band to the thin meander stripes-- it is finished with an outer cengel s-hook guard border for protection against the evil eye.
