Description
73835 Vintage Turkish Oushak Rug, 03’08 x 05’00.
This hand-knotted wool vintage Turkish Oushak rug appears like a sumptuous Italian cut velvet, recalling the rich and luxurious design furnishings of a bygone era such as the reign of King James I in Jacobean England. A large-scale cusped lozenge pole medallion runs along the center with ram's horn latch-hooks and anchored with pendants and rosettes at either end. The center medallion is filled with a dark crimson red cruciform (cross symbol) composed from the Elibelinde (hands on hips) and Ram's Horn motif at either end. The weathered cut-out field is framed by an ivory outline dotted with eight-petal rosette flowers. It is enclosed with a rectilinear border and angular guard bands. Romance and whimsy collide in this seriously decorative carpet.
