Description
52337 Vintage Turkish Oushak Rug, 04'00 x 06'03.
This hand-knotted wool vintage Turkish Oushak rug features a compartmentalized design composed of varying rectangular shapes adorned with an assortment of geometric forms. Four eight-pointed stars, thought to represent happiness and spirituality, appear in the center of each offset-rectangular compartment, surrounded by open blossoms, rosettes with curling leaves, and hooked rectangles. Pairs of large Kaikalak, a traditional Anatolian symbol consisting of ram’s horn crosses with diamond centers, decorate the field between the panels. Ram’s horns are traditionally seen as representing virility, power and masculinity, while diamonds are thought to ward off evil. Laleh Abassi secondary borders and barber’s pole listels flank the wide main border, which features a paneled design of large tulips, the flower of Turkey. With its bold graphic design and soft timeworn colors, this vintage Turkish Oushak rug would be a striking addition to any space.
