It features a large polygonal center medallion adorned with Elibelinde pendants on either end floating in the center of an abrashed brick red field. The classic Elibelinde motif, also known as the “hands on hips” or goddess motif, is thought to represent motherhood and fertility. Both the medallion and corner spandrels are patterned with a diamond lattice. Additionally, yin and yang pearl drops outline the medallion and spandrels. Though originally adopted from Chinese philosophy, the yin and yang symbol in Anatolian culture is thought to represent love and unison, or, going even further, fertility and the harmony between man and woman. Pulling together colors and motifs from throughout the composition, the botanical border features a graceful floral and leaf design.
