Description
51554 Vintage Turkish Oushak Rug, 03'11 X 06'11.
Emanating nomadic charm with incredible detail and texture, this hand knotted wool vintage Turkish Oushak rug is a captivating vision of woven beauty. The intricate honeycomb lattice design and vibrant colorway woven into this piece work together creating a truly one-of-a-kind look. The allover pattern composed of a diamond trellis is decorated with ambiguous motifs and tribal symbols. The geometric shapes within the lattice vary between highly stylized forms that echo the repeated diamond motifs and more rounded traditional shapes, all the while maintaining a firm highly stylized approach. Interspersed along the edges of the main lattice, a variety of traditional Anatolian symbols appear, including boteh, birds, and S-shapes. The boteh motif is one of the most widely used motifs throughout oriental rugs of all regions and is variously thought to represent a leaf, bush, pine-cone, sprout or flame. Birds are seen to represent happiness and joy, and S-shapes traditionally represent hooks, which are thought to protect against evil. The main border features a classic birds-on-a-tree motif, which is more typically found in Caucasian rugs. Here, the motif is used to great effect, seeming to echo both the geometric forms and figural motifs used throughout. The inner guard border features alternating rosettes and S-shapes, while the outer guard border features alternating rosettes and birds. The wide variety of symbols nestled within a bold design, along with a lively earth-tone colors, ensure that this stunning vintage Oushak rug would be a stylish, yet meaningful, addition to any space.
