Description
72249 Vintage Turkish Rug with Tribal Style, 03'10 x 05'05.
Tribal enchantment dances with Anatolian symbolism in this hand knotted wool vintage Turkish rug. The neutral khaki colored backdrop sets the stage for the beguiling tribal design. Along the heart of the composition are three stacked lozenge medallions embellished with an Elibelinde (hands on hips) motif in the center of each one. Further ornamenting the field are a variety of tribal symbols from Ram's Horn, Bereket, Burdock, S-hooks, protection amulets, rosettes and other ambiguous motifs, weaving tales passed down through generations.
Derived from the virility symbolized by the Ram's Horn motif, the Classic Elibelinde motif, also known as "hands on hips" or goddess motif, embodies concepts of motherhood and fertility. Conversely, the ram’s horns symbolize masculinity and power, contributing to the rug's multifaceted symbolism. The fertility Bereket motifs further enhance this symbolism by combining elements representing both man and woman, integrating ram's horns and hands-on-hips motifs into a unified design centered around a diamond motif. These motifs carry profound meanings, with hooks, amulets and the Burdock motifs offering protection from malevolent spirits, adding layers of cultural richness to the piece.
The vintage Turkish rug is framed with a bird-on-a-pole border flanked with an inner and outer rosette guard border. This Turkish rug is not merely a floor covering but a reflection of cultural narratives and traditions, each motif carrying layers of meaning and Anatolian significance. Through its intricate design and rich symbolism, this woven wonder invites contemplation and connection with ancient beliefs and rituals. With its fusion of tribal enchantment and earth-tone colors, this Turkish rug serves as a captivating centerpiece that enriches any space with its depth and character.
